Yang Chao is a professor at Communication University of Zhejiang, a nominee for the "Top Ten Outstanding Young Designers in China," and a Qianjiang Distinguished Expert in Hangzhou. He received a full DAAD artist scholarship to study at the Braunschweig University of Art in Germany and previously served as a visiting researcher at Aalto University in Finland. He earned his PhD in Visual Communication from the University of Macau.
His design works have won multiple international awards, including accolades from the world's top three design competitions. Notably, he has received the Red Dot Supreme Award twice, along with multiple honors such as the German iF Design Award, the Gold Prize at the IDA International Design Awards in the U.S., the A’ Design Award in Italy, and the China Advertising Great Wall Award. He has also served as a judge for prestigious domestic and international competitions, including the French "Poster for Tomorrow" international poster competition, the Auschwitz Political Poster Exhibition in Poland, the Russian Golden Turtle Award, the China Elements International Creative Competition, as well as evaluations for the National Social Science Fund Art Projects and artistic research results assessments. Additionally, he has led research projects funded by the National Social Science Fund and the National Art Fund.
Yang Chao specializes in the contemporary transformation and international design expression of Chinese elements and has completed a series of significant design projects. His "National Gift Blue and White Porcelain" sofa series, designed for Kuka Home, was collected by the Paris Olympic Organizing Committee. He was also responsible for designing exclusive diplomatic gifts for the "50th Anniversary of China-Australia Diplomatic Relations Cultural and Artistic Exchange Event," organized by the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles and the Chinese Embassy in Australia. His works include the environmental ceramic art installation in the lobby of the Beijing International Club Building, a subsidiary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, customized artistic gifts for Ant Group (Ant Financial), and the brand identity design for "Impression West Lake." Notably, the "Impression West Lake" branding project was selected as a "Model Case for State-Owned Enterprise Brand Building" by the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission (SASAC) of the State Council.
